- Find Your Space: Create a cozy, distraction-free zone where you can truly focus and allow yourself to let go. Whether it’s at your desk, in a comfy chair by the window, or even outside in the woods: the goal is to find a place where you can relax and dive deep.
- Set Your Intentions: Before you start, take a moment to decide what you hope to uncover or achieve through your journaling. - Side note: remember that you should not put pressure on yourself, and if it doesn’t work or go as you had intended, that that does not mean that you failed. Stay open to all outcomes!

- Facing Uncomfortable Truths: This one is for sure going to happen. And I want to start by highlighting that it’s completely natural to feel uneasy when confronting difficult emotions. Remind yourself that this discomfort is part of the healing process (!!!) Take your time and be patient with yourself.
- Resistance to Facing the Dark: You might find yourself resisting certain topics. Acknowledge this resistance and gently encourage yourself to explore these areas when you’re ready.
- Lack of Motivation: Staying motivated can be tough. Set small, achievable goals for your journaling sessions and celebrate your progress to keep yourself engaged.
- Staying Consistent: Life gets busy, and it can be easy to skip journaling sessions. Try to set aside a specific time each week/month to write, which will help build a routine.
- Feeling Overwhelmed: If the emotions become too intense, take a break and focus on self-care. Self-care is ESSENTIAL during shadow work. You don’t have to tackle everything at once.
- Interpreting Insights: Sometimes, the insights you gain might be confusing. Give yourself time to process them, and once again: be gentle. There’s no need to have all the answers immediately, trust the timing: it will come at the right moment.
